who were we then

When we were younger we liked to go to sleep before certain positions of the big and little hand.  We looked out the bedroom window and the moon had a heavy ring around it, like a circle in a deep puddle when it’s raining.  Temperature was fluid, and abstract; a chill was just one motion.  Never a continued state.  A drawing was made where before was a blank page, and it was made with wax.  Usually a map or a character profile, that’s what we drew.  Who were we then? A series of loose gesture drawings shuffled together, placed in a chest with the letters  c  h  i  l  d  carved on top.
