is different every time.  This past trip I took, to Washington DC and then down to North Carolina, seemed to go on longer than most two-week trips and I’m not sure why that is; maybe it’s because the climate there was warm, Indian summer, and when I got back to Colorado it immediately snowed half a foot.  I saw my old friend Dora in DC and traveled around North Carolina with my brother and sister, and am grateful for this, I’d missed them all. And miss them again now, but there is a layer of sweet new memory over the old longing.

It warms my heart to read this…

Surprised that it seemed longer than the actual time period. . . vacations usually seem so transient to me. But there are always the “sweet new memories” to keep you going, as you say.
